Work. Kids. Significant Others. We’re being pulled in multiple directions on a daily basis. It’s not necessarily a bad thing. We do, after all, gain deep satisfaction and meaning from our relationships. But there is a really important relationship we tend to neglect when life gets stressful…..the one with ourselves.
October was a big month. My partner & I moved, I hit a deer, and he got knee surgery. I started to drink an extra glass of wine (or maybe two) at night to take the edge off. I was staying up late to finish my to do list. As a health coach, I know how important it is to take care of oneself ESPECIALLY when life is hectic. Yet, I was falling into the same trap that many of my clients do. I call it the, I don’t have time to take care of myself and I feel guilty if I prioritize myself, syndrome.
After a week of “I ran out of time for…yoga, a run, friends, etcetera”, and with a gentle push from my boyfriend, I went on a hike. The importance of that hike for myself AND those around me was obvious. So, I came up with a challenge for myself. For the month of December (a stressful month to say the least) I am going to do something for me EVERY SINGLE DAY.
I’m calling this challenge ME MOMENTS and I’d like to invite you to join me. Your daily activity doesn't have to be extravagant (thus moments). Perhaps one day you allow yourself five minutes of reading while drinking your tea. Maybe you’ll treat yourself to lunch instead of eating at your desk. Is there a massage, yoga class, or manicure you’ve been putting off until you have time? DO IT! YOU ARE WORTH IT.
1. Do something for you EVERY SINGLE DAY
2. Share with the group on the ME MOMENTS Facebook page
Are you ready? Who knows, we just might find that we’re happier, healthier, more energetic, and ultimately more present in our personal and professional lives when we take time to prioritize ourselves.
